(from the painting by Van Gogh)

if you’d seen us
you would have thought
we were dancing

it was that time of day
when the sky is still water
but the horizon is fire

on that day he was happy
and each single moment
was a simple, perfect brushstroke

all around us was green, growing
I wore my sunflower yellow gown
he was in faraway blue

we wandered through the olive grove
and the trees danced
crooked and strong
